Established in 1788 by the founder of Chabad, Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi, known as the Alter Rebbe, Colel Chabad is the oldest, largest and most diversified social welfare network in Israel. It is the exclusive partner of the Israeli government in its national program for nutritional security. In our times, the seventh Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, considered Colel Chabad a personal and most cherished cause.
Colel Chabad serves Israel’s neediest with comprehensive food and nutrition programs including 22 free restaurants, medical and dental services, holistic support for widows and orphans, a network of modern daycare centers for the children of poor working mothers, the world’s most advanced facilities for patients suffering from degenerative neurological diseases, interest-free loans, holiday programs and summer camps for hospitalized children, subsidized wedding facilities for poor young couples, and programs for the absorption of elderly immigrants.
Colel Chabad offers support to all who are In need regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, or degree of religious observance – and always in a manner designed to preserve and enhance the dignity of those being helped.
