Do the poor -- especially children from large families -- have a right to a wedding? Not just in city hall, but a true Jewish simcha with food, flowers and music... surrounded by the love of family and friends? Sadly, the cost of even a basic celebration is way beyond the means of these families. Yet, parents incur enormous debt in order to marry off their beloved sons and daughters. Giving joy to brides and grooms is one of the greatest mitzvahs. Which is why Colel Chabad sees to it that poor young couples can have lovely if modest celebrations that will not saddle them with a lifetime of insurmountable debt. We do this through our own wedding halls, through our mobile catering unit and through outright grants that help needy newlyweds set up house. |
